India’s first-ever hydrogen fuel cell powered bus by Tata Motors is here! Made in India bus emits only water

Tata Motors and IndianOil Corporation will carry out testing on the new Tata Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus for about two years before taking further decisions. A hydrogen fuel cell engine only produces water and heat as a byproduct.


Tata Motors in association with Indian Oil Corporation has flagged off the trials of India’s first ever Hydrogen Fuel Cell powered Bus. Indian Oil R&D is celebrating its 47th foundation day, marked by the beginning of the hydrogen fuel cell bus’ testing in real world. The said project has partial financial support from Department of Science & Industrial Research, Ministry for Science & Technology and the Ministry for New and Renewable Energy. Another landmark for the hydrogen fuel cell tech is the fact that the bus was fuelled at the country’s first hydrogen dispensing facility at R&D Centre of IndianOil. The two companies, Tata Motors and IndianOil will be carrying out prolonged testing of the hydrogen fuel cell bus to understand the efficiency and durability of the new and clean mobility solution in the long run in a better way.


Such projects reflect positively on the Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative with Tata Motors being on the forefront of introducing clean vehicles for mass transportation. While we’ve seen luxury buses from Volvo and Mercedes-Benz, Tata Motors’ new buses also offer a promise for a clean environment. Buses that run on hydrogen fuel cell tech are already in use in many countries. Over 100 fuel cell buses are a part of London’s transport system.

Hydrogen fuel cell technology is about three times more efficient than a traditional combustion engine. A fuel cell operates quite like a battery but without having to charge. The fuel cell generates electricity and water as long as the fuel – hydrogen and oxygen, are supplied to it.

Tata Motors first unveiled the hydrogen fuel cell bus at its Pune facility in January this year. The company launched the Starbus Electric 9m, Starbus Electric 12m and the Starbus Hybrid 12m range of buses which are designed, developed, powered by alternative fuels and made in India. Tata Starbus Fuel Cell bus produces only water and heat as a byproduct, thus, producing zero emissions.

Hydrogen powered Tata Starbus fuel cell bus is a zero-emission vehicle best suited for inter-city transportation for the masses and been developed in a partnership of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation).


The homegrown brand Tata Motors has a number of buses that run on alternative fuel. The company has extensively tested CNG hybrid buses. Tata also signed a contract for the largest ever single order for hybrid electric vehicle technology with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) last year.

The Military exoskeleton is a completely un-tethered, hydraulic-powered anthropomorphic exoskeleton that provides users with the ability to carry loads of up to 200 lbs for extended periods of time and over all terrains. Its flexible design allows for deep squats, crawls and upper-body lifting. There is no joystick or other control mechanism. The exoskeleton senses what users want to do and where they want to go. It augments their ability, strength and endurance.

BrainDriver is the latest invention of Raul Rojas, an AI professor at the Freie Universitat Berlin. It represents a car driving system that allows the driver to control a vehicle using the power of mind.
It is worth mentioning that the technology makes use of electroencephalography, or EEG, which allows it to read the brain's neuro-signals and then convert the electric impulses into steering output.
Thus one can control the steering, brakes and more by simply using their thought. The EEG was developed by Emotiv, a firm based in San Francisco. It is worth mentioning that initially the firm developed the EEG for gaming but now it used to help read human emotions and convert them into actions in accordance with pre-programmed patterns.
So far the technology is in the trial phase. The testing of the new system took place at the Berlin Airport, reports Spectrum IEEE.

flying-inventionInventor and former Swiss Air Force fighter pilot, Yves Rossy, jumped from a plane over Calais, France and flew 200 mph crossing the English Channel in 13 minutes before landing in Dover, England.Earlier this year he unfolded the wings on his back and flew 186 mph (300 kilometers) above the Swiss Alps.
new-inventionUsing four small jet engines attached to his carbon wings, he climbed at 200 ft per minute before executing a series of stunts for a crowd of reporters watching from a mountain top.
The spectacular demonstration was the first public revelation of his latest invention, which he spent five years developing.
"It is absolute freedom" says Rossy.
The inventor says his 120 lb Jetman suit will eventually be available to the public but it's still a few years away.
The flight over the English Channel was his second public demonstration. He is planning his next flight through the Grand Canyon.
Update: Yves Rossy has completed his flight over the Grand Canyon. He jumped out of a helicopter at 2,440 metres (8,000 feet) and soared over the Canyon at 330 km (205 mph) for eight minutes before deploying his parachute.
"My first flight in the US is sure to be one of the most memorable experiences in my life, not only for the sheer beauty of the Grand Canyon but the honor to fly in sacred Native American lands," said Rossy.

motorcycle-inventionThis wild new motorcycle, invented by 19-year-old Ben J. Poss Gulak, is among the latest inventions to capture attention.Debuting at the National Motorcycle Show in Toronto, the "Uno" uses gyro technology for balance and acceleration.
It is a battery charged machine that accelerates by leaning forward and slowing down by leaning backwards. It weighs approximately 129 pounds (58 kg.) and has a top speed of 25 mph (40 klms).
Update: Since featuring Ben's invention, he has continued to develop and progress with his innovative product. He won second place in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, and first prize in Popular Science's Invention Awards.
Ben also appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and on the popular invention television show "Dragon's Den" where he received 1.25 million dollars from investors.
Gulak continues to develop and commercialize his invention while studying engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The latest prototype, known as the Uno 3, can automatically transform itself from a uno-dicycle into a conventional looking motorcycle, which allows for greater acceleration, speed and stability.
Ben shares this advice for inventors, "When you have an idea, it's easy to get discouraged. There are so many people who will tell you that you're wasting your time. The biggest thing is to not let people get you down. If you really believe in something - keep going after it because there is always a way and you can make your dreams come true."
